Scared to Public Speak? Just analyze yourself.

Scared to Public Speak? Just analyze yourself.

To be a leader or achieve something meaningful in our lives, it is necessary to speak in public today.  The audience could be small if it is a presentation, or it could be a large group or a huge gathering.  It is a very natural thing to be scared to address a group of people, even if you know them very well.  In today’s world it is difficult to avoid public speaking, because the trend is to accomplish tasks in teams and groups.

Actually public speaking need not be stressful for you at all, and for that you must analyze the cause of this stress.  There are certain key principles which one can think about, and this could enable you to make public speaking a satisfying and enjoyable experience.

Speaking in public is not an inherently stressful problem.  Thousands of human beings have learned to do it and though they were scared of it in the beginning, have managed to master the skill and have become good public speakers today.  You have to work for it, prepare your stuff thoroughly, practice it several times, and you can stand in front of any large audience and deliver your speech with confidence.

You cannot be a perfect speaker from the first day.  You may make mistakes, be tongue-tied or speechless, forget some points, but all this will lead you one day to become a good speaker.  The most important thing of public speaking is what you give the audience.  You should deliver them something of value, and then they will go home happy.  After all it is the audience that matters, and if they are pleased, the battle is won.

The best way of not feeling scared to public speak is not to consider yourself a public speaker. We cannot present any idealistic qualities, which we actually don’t possess. So, just be natural and talk to the audience just as you would talk to anybody else. There is no ‘ideal’ public speaker, so don’t copy or imitate anybody, just be yourself and you will love and enjoy every moment.  Just go to the podium with the knowledge that you want to impart to the audience and a few key points and just address them.  Everything will fall into place.

Each person develops his or her own style of public speaking.  Some like to relate anecdotes, crack jokes or even share their weaknesses with the audience.  If you are comfortable using humor and if it fits the situation, you should do it.  Relating anecdotes may just give the personal touch, but don’t overdo it, because a part of the audience may not enjoy it, because they are not interested in you as a person, but have more interest in the topic.  And also it is sometimes good to put forth your weaknesses, show that you are scared, because then the audience finds it easy to connect with you. Just a little bit of it will show them the humble person in you.

Don’t think too much about the reaction of the audience.  If the topic is controversial, there are bound to be repercussions, but you should not get agitated and aggressive.  Your audience wants you to succeed and nobody comes to listen to a speech just to criticize.  So, give them the valuable information that they have come for, and you will definitely lose all fright of public speaking.

Perseverance is the Key for Overcoming Stage Fright

Jun 07, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

Perseverance is the Key for Overcoming Stage Fright

If you are a regular public speaker or a theatre artist, stage fright is a common factor.  It reduces with time and experience, but can be taxing on the nerves.  Stage fright can cause people to sweat profusely, stammer and even go “blank” suddenly.  It can be a cause of embarrassment, and may create a bad image for your future.

If you have to face audiences often, start by addressing small groups.  At first the groups could be familiar faces, so that you are not nervous.  And if you make mistakes and falter, you can always correct yourself.  With a familiar group you also know that your small failures will not be taken seriously.

Ask your friends who have attended your public addresses, to give an opinion about your public speaking.  You might have spoken too fast, or you did not articulate the words properly, or the language was too difficult for the audience or any other tips like that.  Besides, they should be able to judge your postures and your eye contact.  These things will definitely help you to overcome your stage fright, because you can be made aware of your shortcomings and correct them.

Of course you may not be so lucky to start with smaller groups, but you can at least start with a very familiar subject, so that you will be comfortable at least about the subject, if not the situation.  Nevertheless, prepare the speech well, so that you know what to say, instead of going on stage and then reshuffling the ideas in your mind.

You don’t have to connect with the audience right from the beginning.  The sight of all the faces is enough to give you a stage fright.  All eyes are fixed on you, and they are checking out each move of yours.  Now you have to pretend that they are not there and just deliver your subject well. Your eyes will be on the audience, but not looking into their eyes, just actually above them. They should get the impression that you are looking at them and talking to them.

It is important for you to deliver well. The beginning of the speech requires the most courage, so prepare it very well, so that you don’t falter at all. Once you have started the speech, it will automatically flow, because you have already gone through it a couple of times while practicing it and it is all familiar ground for you.

As time goes by, you will definitely overcome stage fright and actually look forward to the next public address. You will enjoy the attention so much, that your fright of speaking will change to enjoyment. If there is a question and answer session after the address, listen carefully, be direct and answer questions to the point.  Show the confidence that you have through hand gestures, and you will become a popular speaker.

Having stage fright is not healthy for the body; it may affect the blood-pressure and has an effect on the nerves in any case. You have to train yourself to overcome it, and it is not a very difficult task.

How to Speak to an Audience and Do it Well

Jun 07, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

How to Speak to an Audience and Do it Well

Speaking to an audience could imply making presentations to small familiar groups or holding a large mass of people spellbound by your magic speech.  Some speakers are more experienced than the others, but still many of them use devices which give an added effect to their speeches.  Some of these devices are repetition, verb signals, examples, illustrations, eye contact, and many more.

Let us look at some useful tips for public speaking to groups of any size.  Repetition of words or ideas is common, especially if it is an important word or concept in your speech.  Also, if the audience has not heard it properly the first time, give them a second chance to hear it. You can also make your audience aware of what you are going to show and say next.  Maybe there are some statistics coming or some examples which will enable them to understand your point clearer. This makes the audience sit up and wait for that next phase.

Examples and illustrations are always welcome, and the audience prefers to hear and see authenticity, than just listening to generalized statements.  Anecdotes are also often interesting for a group, and sometimes they can help the audience to create empathy, just as examples do.  Of course the comparisons and examples should be understandable by the audience and they should be able to relate to them.

Use questions in your talk and invite the participation of the audience.  This helps to maintain interest, and develops a closer relationship between you and the audience.  It encourages the audience to a mutual thinking process and they feel important.  In other words, you talk directly to the audience, and make them feel like individuals.  Audience interest should be your main goal, and they should not be treated like one mass of people.

Eye contact is essential, because then you establish a sort of bond with the audience.  Be careful not to stare at one of them, just a few seconds at each person is enough. You can also decipher the interest of the audience if you look into their eyes.

But of course you have to speak well, and you can train yourself for that.  The speaking can be effective if there is good voice production and articulation.  If you want to deliver well, there are several factors that play an important role:  pace, pitch, tone, volume and the use of the pause.

Maintain a slower pace than normal conversation, and vary it.  If you want to emphasize something, go slow, and vary it according to your need. The pitch of your voice should definitely be low, because a low-pitched voice is pleasing to the audience.  Also, if you deliberately lower the pitch of your voice, it will help you to relax as well.

The tone expresses feeling and show warmth and sincerity in your voice.  Don’t sound aggressive, it may disturb the audience.  Vary your volume to make the talk lively and interesting, but it should be loud enough to be heard by all.  Use pauses effectively, for example to focus attention on what you have said or to make the audience think. Above all, know the needs of the audience and match your contents to their needs.

Need Face Painting Examples for Your Kid’s Party?

May 25, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

Need Face Painting Examples for Your Kid’s Party?

It’s amazing how our creativity seems to have no boundaries. Artistry has gone a long way and different mediums have cropped up. But when it comes to art, most people would think about big pictures by talented artists who someday would have a name as big as the price tag attached to their work. But artistry is not just for the highly talented, mostly, artistry begins with children and this is where its purity lies unchanged.

Face painting is an art where people, with or without exceptional talent can have lots of fun. Parents and their children can have a fantastic bonding time together while their faces are being painted. For parties, both children and adults can go wacky over the many different designs that they can make use of.

There are many events and venues that you can have face painting as an activity or a contest, aside from the usual costume competitions, or maybe just plainly wanting to go and look your best or you’re spookiest.

Forget about monsters, fairies and underworld creatures, there are so much more to face painting than scary ghouls. Your creativity would only be limited by your imagination. But if you’re stuck in a rut and can’t seem to get any ideas on which design you want, then you will need some face painting examples.

The great thing about face painting examples today is that you don’t have to go to the library or to a bookstore to borrow or purchase face painting books to get your creative juices flowing. All you simply have to do is to log on to the Internet and do a search for the numerous face painting examples that are offered in the websites that do offer them.

Many of these face painting examples are given for free. You will be able to browse through their pages and see the designs they have. Usually the examples of these designs are already categorized by their themes. So if you’re looking for an animal or say nature or clown designs, you will be able to find their examples in a jiffy.

It’s always advisable to know first the design that you are looking for. This way, you can directly go to the category that you are looking for and start choosing which one you think you will be able to copy or reproduce. If you just go in without any idea of what you want or need, you will be swamped by the thousands of face painting examples that are available and will have so much difficulty in choosing one.

Also, try to choose that you think you will be able to do. If you pick a design that is too elaborate for your artistic skills, you may just end up frustrated and botch the job. Also remember to get the opinion of your child and let him or her help you choose, this should be fun for both you and your child. Remember, face painting should be fun as they are done for fun filled activities, don’t be stressed out even when you are just beginning to look for a design or example. Go online and get your work over with in no time at all.

Useful Ideas for Face Painting for Beginners

May 25, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

Useful Ideas for Face Painting for Beginners

There are many styles and techniques used in painting. Some painters paint over canvas, stones, walls, paper, and many others. But did you know that face painting is gaining popularity over the years?

Face painting started many years ago. In fact, ancient people already practiced face paintings like the Egyptians and many other tribes. Today, people love face painting. It gives them pleasure and at the same time, they are also having fun. If you want to learn face painting, you should make use of these ideas for face painting.

If this is your first time to do face painting, you have to gather much information about the topic. You can read a face painting book or you can also watch videos that teach beginners how to do face painting. If you want, you can also search the net for useful information regarding this particular work of art. Study the information you’ve gathered.

After that, go to an art shop and purchase paints, paint brushes, sponges, and other materials that you will use. If you want to improve your skills in face painting, you will have to practice. As the saying goes – practice makes perfect. If you simply leave the paints, brushes, and all your other art materials lying around, you will not learn anything. During your vacant time or when you’re just relaxing and doing nothing, pick up your brush and start painting.

You have to have someone who you can practice with but just make sure that you practice with an older child or an adult. Having small children around is not a good idea as they have shorter attention span. They will only be fidgety and you can’t do a good job. By having an adult or a much older child, you can practice without any complaints. The person should also be interested in face painting so that you will not encounter any problems and difficulty.

When you’re already face painting, apply only thin coats of paint. Don’t apply a think coating or layer otherwise, the design will tend to crack and cake.

If you need to apply two or more layers of paint, let the first layer dry first. Once the first layer is completely dry, you can now apply the second layer. To outline the shapes you’re making, you can make use of makeup pencils. You can also purchase this in art shops.

Don’t try difficult designs like symmetrical ones. You can do this if you’re already experienced. For starters, you can do animals because it is not very detailed when it comes to the designs on both sides of the face. Painting a butterfly is difficult because it is a symmetrical design. You have to wait until you’re ready for that.

Try to use your imagination. You can create small tattoos or stamps like spiders, snakes, lizards, and many others. You can use temporary tattoos as reference but make sure that you choose one that is appropriate for face painting.

The Internet offers many possibilities. If you’re really artistic and you came up with unique ideas for face painting, you can make your own collections and build your own site. This way, you can create your hobby into a business.

Face painting can remove stress and tension. Practice this excellent work of art. Once you’ve developed the skill, you can try the more difficult techniques or styles.

5 First Date Mistakes Men Make That End In Heartbreak and How To Avoid Them

May 17, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

5 First Date Mistakes Men Make That End In
Heartbreak and How To Avoid Them

300 Creative Dates
Written By Michael Webb

Let’s face it you never get a second chance to make a first impression!

That’s why, if you want to take things further with a woman, you need to show her your best on the very first date. And in actual fact, there are 5 things that men consistently do on first dates that totally destroy their chances of seeing the woman again, and the worst part is they think they’re doing it right!

Avoid the following 5 mistakes to increase your chances of success on your first date:

MISTAKE #1 — BUYING GIFTS

Bringing chocolate or flowers on a first date isn’t the best idea - especially if you’ve just met the woman! She’s there to get to know YOU. Women are always asking themselves “what does THAT mean?” And in this case it’s, “He bought me flowers because he likes me, but he doesn’t even know anything about me yet! A little suspicious.

MISTAKE #2 — BEING MR. SERIOUS

When in the presence of a potential date, men often become boring, instead of keeping up the friendly vibe they have with their friends. They won’t make jokes or laugh with the woman, they won’t play around like they do with their friends and they generally take things a little too seriously. Why do men change their behavior around women, often without even realizing they’re doing it? Because they fear losing their only chance with the girl of their dreams, they try and play the safe side, which results in a “Mr. Serious.”

MISTAKE #3 — CONDUCTING AN INTERVIEW

When men become “Mr. Serious” they often fall into ”job interview conversation mode.” Make sure you reserve questions like, “So where do you work?” or “How many brothers and sisters do you have?” for the future, after you’ve already had a lot of fun and made the sparks fly. Instead, talk about your hobbies, interesting stories and fun stuff. Avoid anything too deep for a long period of time. On a first date, it can make things a little depressing.

Talk like you’ve known each other for years (as if you don’t need to do the awkward 20-questions quiz.) Of course you can ask basic questions, but never make it the main focus of your date. Focus on fun.

MISTAKE #4 — BEING TOO NEEDY & DIRECT

Without realizing it, many guys turn their dates off by trying a little too hard. For example: Men will lean into a woman’s personal space, and ask, “so do you like me?” or constantly change his opinion to seek her approval and make her like him. Big mistake. Ironically, it’s leaning back, staying cool and calm, being a little cheeky, interesting, mysterious and comfortable with yourself that actually gets a woman’s attention and keeps her interested.

MISTAKE #5 — GOING TO BORING PLACES

If your date finds the night boring, you’re dates, nothing is more important than what you do. And while dinners and movies are nice, it’s really hard to leave a great impression in these settings.

Why? Because they set a very “proper tone” that’s hard to turn into fun and playful. And unless you’re a super funny, intelligent and interesting guy, dinner and movie dates just aren’t the best place to take your date. Instead, go to fun places like mini-golf parks, carnivals, parks, or even better, come up with your own unique and fun ideas.

So in essence, while there are many factors to having a successful date, a great date idea really helps you do many of them naturally! Remember, where you take a woman on a first date can be the difference between a great night and a dating disaster! Choose wisely!

Video Game Tester

May 11, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

Video Game Tester

Video game testers are in great demand because of skyrocketing growth in the gaming industry. People are getting hundreds of dollars per assignment just simply playing and sharing their views on the latest video games to rock in gaming zones. You have bright chances to get great jobs as a video game tester.

One should find a video game tester job, which is a tough job unless you do not have any connection with any video game industry. You should catch a person who is related with graphic designing in video games or one who knows someone in video game industry. You got to know that if you are not being updated with your knowledge in the video game industry, you stand nowhere. There are plenty of games being launched everyday and you should be in touch with it.

You should have knowledge about all the genres, not being capable to opine one particular genre. You love wrestling, but it should not happen that you get perplexed when you have arcade game in front of you to play and to review. People with ‘limited edition’ of knowledge have no vacancy in video game testing field.

Another thing one must keep in mind that one must be able to evaluate pros and cons both in the game. Be frank opining about the game and notice what kind of difficulties you had while playing the game. What all can be helpful overcoming all those difficulties and are those solutions easily traceable by a common person? When the video games are based on real events, check out the authenticity of the events that are being described in the game and mark those points that are praiseworthy.

You should be filled up with the knowledge of latest gadgets and even with those that are outdated. This will help you in comparing latest trend with old tradition making your opinion superior than others’. The manufacturers and players expect you to compare the previous version or edition of the game and to look forward for forthcoming editions too. This means, you should be capable enough to have memory for the past, presence of mind for the current demands and far-sight to suggest what all can be done to make the current edition better in future.

With those all qualities, video game testing can be turned into a ’sitting duck’ and it can make you busy playing, opining and making bunches of dollars at your accounts!

Helpful Memory Aids For Memorization

Apr 24, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

Helpful Memory Aids For Memorization

For many centuries now, memory techniques have evolved in how they are used and learned by people. We all know that the process of remembering information is called ‘mnemonics’. We also know that mnemonics isn’t similar to magic tricks but due to its proven efficiency, it’s considered a technique pertaining to memorization.

If you haven’t realized yet how our memory works, a person’s memory effectively functions to how it associates objects and information. But of course, what we need to practice at is how we focus on things and eventually associate or link them with other information that enable us to remember what we need to remember.

One way to remember things easily is to rhyme words. How do you think we’re able to carry riddles and rhymes during our nursery years in school up to the later years of our lives? Just reading this question alone makes you remember one or two nursery rhymes you’ve learned, right? This also answers how toddlers are able to cope with what they learn in school at this very early stage of their lives. This is also the very reason why rhymes are considered as common memory aids.

Another effective memory technique is the use of initials or the first letter of the word. For example, for a group of items, you can take each first letter and make a word out of it. Remember ROY G. BIV? If you do, you’d know right away that this is not a name of a person but it stands for the seven colors of the rainbow - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. Notice how you have easily recognized the initials? Now you’re nodding.

You need not to make a name always out of the initials from a set of items. You can make a word or anything which can easily help you recognize the words equivalent to items. But in some cases, there might be too little number of vowels versus the consonants. Let’s have the items pasta, rye, fish, cheese and table. Together they look like this: PRFCT. We can add the letter E in between the initials to make it a word; in this case, it can be read now as PERFECT. Of course, when you remember the word PERFECT, you’d easily recognize which item stands for each consonant. Simple? Yes.

There are many other ways how to enhance your memory skills. Interesting and effective memorization techniques can be found at Memory-Improvement-Techniques.

Review: Rocket Piano – the Ultimate Piano Learning Kit

Apr 23, 2008 in Entertainment / Fun

Review: Rocket Piano – the Ultimate Piano Learning Kit

If you are learning the piano, either as a beginner or as a slightly more advanced player, you can appreciate how frustrating it is learning the skills and techniques without seeing any noticeable results. The time and effort that many put into exercises don’t seem to be reflected in their standard of playing. There also seems to be a frustration in the lack of quality information on the market.

The Piano Guy and the team at Rocket Piano have bucked the trend with the latest developments to the Rocket Piano brand. They have had considerable success with their 3 book series, Learn to Play the Piano with Rocket Piano – the Ultimate Piano Learning Kit. Given the positive feedback from the success of this package, the team decided to develop the product further, and have come up with a package that is unrivalled in terms of quality and its comprehensive nature. This package truly does enable piano students to accelerate their learning, and includes an impressive array of features.

In addition to the quality information in the glossy 3 book series, the team at Rocket Piano has included hundreds of sound files that explain how to play, so you can hear what your playing is supposed to sound like. The songs are broken down into pieces, which enables the student to learn each piece before they are ready to tackle the whole song. Being able to play these songs will amaze friends and acquaintances alike, and this is made easy through the hundreds of lines of music included for your benefit.

In addition to this, the team have spent hours developing exclusive educational computer games to develop your skills in reading and training your ear to transcribe music. The pro version of Jayde Musica is now available as a free bonus as well as Perfect Your Pitch Pro, a program that is designed to give the student the ability to tune their ear to recognize notes and transcribe songs from the radio. Both of these programs are very well made and presented, and most of all are easy and fun to play.

As well as this, when you purchase the package, you get two additional free bonus books. The first is “Advanced Learning Techniques for Piano”. This book introduces the idea of mental visualization, which is a powerful tool in speeding up your rate of learning. Mental visualization uses the same pathways inside your brain other than the fact you are not performing the activity physically. The second bonus book, “How to tune your piano” solves the problem with tuning pianos, and introduces the reader to the most effective way of tuning a piano.

With all of the information in this package there really is no excuse to delay learning to play your piano. The Rocket Piano team has given the reader five high quality books, two fun educational games and access to hundreds of recorded sound files that will have students playing popular songs like a professional in no time.

As an added bonus, the team at Rocket Piano has also thrown in free email consultations to customers that may have specific issues or problems that need addressing. This is of enormous benefit to students that need specific answers to their training queries.

This package is by far the most complete and fresh approach to piano playing that I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend this product because I do believe it will deliver results and have you playing popular songs like a professional using the most effective techniques. There is something here for every piano player, regardless of ability. And at the current cost, it really is worth every dollar spent!

If you are learning the guitar as a beginner, as a slightly more advanced player or as someone coming back to playing the guitar, you can appreciate how frustrating it is learning the skills and techniques without seeing any noticeable results. The time and effort that many put into exercises don’t seem to be reflected in their standard of playing. There also seems to be a frustration in the lack of quality information on the market.

They have come up with a new package that is unrivalled in terms of quality and its comprehensive nature. This package truly does enable guitar students to accelerate their learning, and includes an impressive array of features.

In addition to the quality information in the glossy two book series, the team at Jamorama has spent 1,000s of hours developing 148 video examples and exercises so the student can hear and see exactly what they should be doing. The Jamorama team have also included two exaexclusive educational computer games to develop your skills in reading and training your ear to transcribe music. Both of these programs are very well made and presented, and most of all are easy and fun to play.

Add to this package the two additional free bonus ebooks “Advanced Learning Techniques for Guitar”.and “How to tune your guitar”. Advanced Techniques introduces the idea of mental visualization, which is a powerful tool in speeding up your rate of learning. Mental visualization uses the same pathways inside your brain other than the fact you are not performing the activity physically. The second bonus book, “How to tune your guitar” solves the problem with tuning guitars, and introduces the reader to the most effective way of tuning a guitar.

If that weren’t already enough the Jamorama Metronone also comes with the package at no additional cost.

With all of the information in this package there really is no excuse to delay learning to play your guitar. The Jamorama team has given the reader four high quality books, two fun educational games and access the Jamorama forum with all the resources you need to play like a professional in no time.

This package is by far the most complete and fresh approach to guitar playing that I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend this product because I do believe it will deliver results and have you playing popular songs like a professional using the most effective techniques. There is something here for every guitar player, regardless of ability. And at the current cost, it really is worth every dollar spent!
